- Sweet potatoes can be very healthy and only 96 calories per half cup when roasted. Avoid the added calories of candies sweet potatoes that can be a whopping 587 calories per half cup .
- Select cranberry sauce or chutneys for your dish instead of using calorie-laden gravies that leave your stomach feeling heavy and sluggish.
- Instead of oils, use lemon and other juices in your cooking.
- Flavor foods with herbs and spices.
When you are cooking, you have better control of avoiding the buttery and fattening meals that come with eating out and eating in excess. Using cooking methods such as grilling and roasting as preparation alternatives will produce a finished product that can be lower in overall calories and higher in nutrition. Whether you are cooking or not, you can still opt for healthier choices.
