Good Carbs VS. Bad Carbs: Here is what you should know

Why do carbohydrates matter to me?
Well....
Over the last 15 years, scientific and public opinion have placed carbs in sometimes good, and sometimes bad, light.  Some diets promote carbs as healthy, while others ban them; crushing their benefit.

CARBOHYDRATE FACTS: Carbohydrates are not just bread, rice, or pasta.
Carbs can be nuts and seeds, vegetables and fruit, milk and dairy, juice and soda, and candy/desserts.

SIMPLE CARBS = BAD

Smaller molecules of sugar, simple carbohydrates are digested quickly by the body.
The energy is stored as glycogen in our cells and is converted to fat, if it is not used immediately.  Bad Carbs are generally processed carb foods.
• Low in Fiber and Nutrients
• High Glycemic Index
• Empty Calories Converted to Fat
• High Blood Glucose Levels = Feeling Tired

COMPLEX CARBS = GOOD

Good Carbohydrates are also referred to as Complex Carbohydrates.
Their chemical structure and fibers warrants them to be harder to digest and the body releases energy over a longer time. Good Carbs are in their natural state.
• High in Fiber and Nutrients
• Low Glycemic Index
• Help you Feel Full with Fewer Calories
• Naturally Stimulates Metabolism
