Using the Glycemic Index: Is There Such a Thing as a 'Good' Carbohydrate?

In short, yes..
Carbohydrates keep the brain, immune system, and red blood cell system functioning well.
A good carbohydrate is the one with a lower calorie density—which means fewer calories per bite.
Say you're faced with a bowl of tortilla chips and a bowl of blueberries. As one might suspect, the blueberries have a lower calorie density, making them the better food choice.

Low Glycemic Foods are the Best Choices for Weight Reduction and Maintenance.

The Glycemic Index ranges from Zero to One Hundred; 0-100.
From knowledge, I know a piece of white bread is a 71 on the GI; a doughnut is a 76.  Now your brain and taste buds equate the white bread to a sandwich; the doughnut, as a dessert.  However, they are about both equally as bad for your body because of the GI ranking.  The body will use them about the same; storing the carbs as fat calories, opposed to using them as energy; the result of consuming a low glycemic carbohydrate.
