Diet Resolutions Easy to Keep: Get Calories on your Radar

Do You Underestimate Your Daily Calorie Total?

The act of counting calories for everything you eat in order to track weight-loss progress, could not be beaten.  But, is it the easiest?  No.
If you can do it: You are already way ahead of the game.
If you need to start slow: Make a resolution to count the calories of 5 meals a week;  chose a few from  dinner and a few from breakfast or lunch. Take note in what is in a single serving and then multiply it, if you go back for seconds.  You may be amazed.
Note: 500 Calories subtracted from each day, yields a weekly total of 3500 Calories.

3500 Calories Equals 1 Pound of Fat
Breakfast is a Must

In a Consultation, one reason I hear for why people skip a meal, is that they are trying to lose weight.  When in fact, the opposite is true.  These people usually gain weight; along with not getting all the nutrients and vitamins their body needs.  Food choices for breakfast can include whole grin cereals, gluten-free items, mixed with skim milk or almond milk; berries; fat-free yogurt with berries and a few sliced almonds, etc.

What would be the Hardest to Cut Out of Your Diet?

Don't drop the chocolate, or the carbohydrates that you will miss the most, completely..you may find yourself eating them more frequently or in a greater amount when you do have them again.  Cut it out slowly.  I know it sounds crazy, but it works.  I had a client that ate 2 breakfast sandwiches from Bojangles every morning.  Is it ideal to tell him to still have 1 but have it 3 days a week instead of 5.  Is it ideal?  No.  But what it is, is a START.

Start Your New Plan on a Monday

If you are on vacation celebrating the New Year and New Years Day is on a Tuesday, then starting Wednesday is unrealistic..  You haven't returned from vacation and you aren't in your physical "groove" yet.  Return from vacation; start on a Monday.  It is a fresh start to the week and you can mentally treat it as a fresh start to your weight-loss program.  There are 52 Mondays in a year; plenty of time to check-in, recommit to the program (if necessary), and focus ahead on your goals.
